Exposition Antoine de Vinck

Antoine de Vinck Exhibition

In 2024, Discover Kraainem launched an ambitious project paying tribute to the ceramicist and sculptor Antoine de Vinck. This sculptor lived and worked in Kraainem for thirty years (from 1955 to 1984). He enjoyed national and international renown during his lifetime. To mark the 100th anniversary of his birth (16 April 1924), Discover Kraainem organised an exhibition featuring a selection of representative works at Jourdain Castle. The municipality of Kraainem co-organised the exhibition.

Discover Kraainem borrowed works from several museums and private collections in Belgium and France. Several dozen works of art, including around thirty large pieces, were on display. A number of these pieces were being exhibited for the first time. The sculptures were complemented by preparatory drawings, photographic material and smaller ceramics by Alice, Antoine’s wife.

Venue: Jourdain Castle, Dezangrélaan/Kasteelweg (car park) 1950 Kraainem

Exhibition review

The Antoine de Vinck exhibition ran from 14 April to 26 May 2024.

On 2 July, the final artworks were returned, all in perfect condition.

There were 831 visitors to the exhibition, mainly from Kraainem, Brussels, Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant.

109 catalogues and 19 monographs on Antoine de Vinck were sold during the exhibition (i.e. 1 book per 6.49 visitors)

Finances: thanks to significant efforts to keep costs down, the support of museums and private collectors, the municipality of Kraainem and its municipal services, the donors to the account opened by the King Baudouin Foundation, the National Lottery and its players, our sponsors, and local retailers and hospitality businesses, we have achieved financial stability.

Without our 66 volunteers, none of this would have been possible!

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT IN THE REALISATION OF THIS DISCOVER KRAAINEM PROJECT!

Exhibition catalogues are still available. If you would like to purchase a copy (€25), please contact Discover Kraainem via discoverkraainem@gmail.com.

As part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the artist’s birth, the de Vinck family has donated a work of art to the municipality of Kraainem. The Crucifixion has been installed in St Dominic’s Church in Kraainem. An explanatory text is available in the church.
