Information booklet on the Bouvier-Washer neighbourhood
To mark the centenary of the Bouvier-Washer garden neighbourhood, a thorough study was carried out into its history. Colette Storms and Martine Kuhn gave a talk on this subject (available via deze link). Colette Storms is currently compiling an information booklet. This publication is partly complete and still requires some work and proofreading. The aim is to finalise it by the end of 2026.
Information booklet on Hof te Stokkel
In the past, the ‘Hof te Stokkel’ farmstead was owned by Park Abbey, which has since expanded considerably. The farmstead and its agricultural land were situated on land that now spans several municipalities (Sint-Pieters-Woluwe/Kraainem/Wezembeek). The farm itself was situated to the right of d’Huartlaan as you head uphill, on Grootveldlaan/Avenue Grandchamp). There were two proposals to make Stokkel a separate municipality, but these were rejected. The tenant subsequently became mayor of Sint-Pieters-Woluwe. In the early twentieth century, a racecourse was built for horse racing; this racecourse also served as an ‘aerodrome’ for air shows. After the Second World War, everything was demolished to make way for housing.
Luc Maes, who for many years contributed articles to the Lijsterbeskrant newspaper about the municipality of Kraainem, is compiling an information booklet on the fascinating history of this farm. The aim is to complete it by the end of 2026.
Information booklet: Public transport in Kraainem
Luc Maes will also be producing a booklet on the origins and construction phases of the various modes of public transport in Kraainem. There is a wealth of documentation available on, amongst other things, the ‘vicinal’ (local railways, Dezangrélaan), line 160 (a train to Tervuren), tram lines 39 and 41 (Brussels/Stokkel), 44 and 45 (Brussels/Tervuren).
