Start of the project (09/07/2026)

On 20 June, a small group of people who had volunteered to help with the project received training on the working method and the main characteristics of modernism. The presentation was given by Stijn Oeyen, who devised the methodology and successfully tested it in the municipality of Zemst.

The municipality was divided into zones, and groups of volunteers walked the streets with Stijn, a member of staff at the IOED (Inter-municipal Immovable Heritage Service) Brabantse Kouters, and the head of Kraainem’s Environment Department. Due to the heatwave, it took several days to cover the municipality’s 60 km of roads. At each building of interest, a preliminary photograph was taken and a description form was completed.

In the next stage, expert colleagues will go through the records one by one to select the most interesting houses. These will form the inventory of Kraainem’s modernist heritage. This stage will take several months of work.

The Agnès Humblet Photography Club in Kraainem has already offered to take professional photographs of the selected houses. This will be the third stage in the project.

Of course, once the inventory is complete, the public will be fully informed of the results.
